1 year, 365 exercise sessions: an extraordinary fitness challenge
An extremely lengthy challenge – a great New Year’s resolution?

Not from 0 to 100!
Franz has always been active and looks back on a sporty past. He’s been playing rugby since his youth, a team sport that he supplements with fitness and strength training. Over the past years, he’s also developed increasing enthusiasm for endurance sport. This means his exercise challenge didn’t come totally out of the blue. “After two days of eating and doing nothing over Christmas, I just wanted to get out. 30 minutes of jogging showed me: this feels good – and it should always be doable, shouldn’t it?,” he recounts. This spontaneous impulse quickly turned into an ambitious New Year’s resolution: being active every day for one whole year.
Routines instead of excuses
The challenge began in the middle of winter – short, cold days didn’t make the start of this endeavor exactly easy. But Franz realized quickly that success not only depends on motivation but also predominantly on routine. “Training in the morning was easier. It also gives you a great feeling throughout the day. It was more difficult on business trips or vacations. But I always planned it so exercise could be incorporated – be it running, hiking, or swimming.” This flexibility helped him carry out his exercise challenge for the entire year.

Supported by the right products
With such a demanding fitness challenge, appropriate accessories were key, in addition to motivation and willpower. Every day, Franz used Bauerfeind Sports Run Ultralight Mid Cut Socks. Franz says: “Lightweight, comfortable, and perfect for all sessions. I wore them for the whole year.” In addition, he regularly used the Sports Knee Support and Elbow Support: “They were indispensable during the rugby season to compensate for minor instabilities or to promote stability as well as preventing injuries most of all.” To ensure quick and effective recovery, he wore Sports Recovery Compression Socks.

Challenges and solutions
But even with a clear structure, there were difficult phases. “Long business trips, sickness, or the rugby season made the exercise challenge complicated. Every now and then, I’ve had to miss a session. But during less stressful phases, I did double sessions to make up for what I had missed – even though that was pretty exhausting.” That’s how Franz managed to reach his goal with a flexible approach. Even during the intensive rugby season, he found ways to keep up daily exercise. “It was important for me not to overexert myself. Long walks on difficult days were just as valuable as more intensive sessions.” That’s a key lesson for any fitness challenge: listen to your body and don’t overdo it!

Looking ahead
Franz is proud of what he’s managed to do this year. “The exercise challenge has shown me how much I can achieve with a lot of discipline and a clear structure. Most of all, I learned that a lack of time isn’t really a good excuse. It’s your mindset making the decisions.” For 2025, however, he set himself different goals. “My next New Year’s resolutions relating to exercise are more specific: I want to take part in competitions like cycling races or running events. That’s something that was missing from this year’s challenge: a clear goal or a real highlight. That means my training will be less frequent next year but more intensive. The foundation I’ve laid this year will definitely help me in the coming season.”
Franz’ 5 tips for your personal fitness challenge 💪
- Start slowly, ideally with cold showers.
- Stay realistic. It’s better to choose a slightly easier challenge that you can implement consistently.
- Turn your fitness challenge into a routine. Schedule specific times for your sessions – this will minimize the risk that you will “postpone” them.
- Look for solutions, not excuses. (written in bold up to here) Obstacles can often be overcome with a little bit of creativity.
- Sometimes it simply won’t work out – and that’s ok. Postponed doesn’t mean abandoned. When you’ve had to miss a session, you can easily do it at a later stage.
Conclusion: every day counts
Franz has shown with his exercise challenge that big goals are achievable – with discipline, a fixed routine, and some flexibility. His key realization: “Time isn’t usually the issue. It’s willpower that makes the difference.” Unfortunately, New Year’s resolutions often fail before they’ve even begun properly. But Franz is the best example that it can work – if you really set your mind to it.
