Hybrid Athlete Training: What is it and how does it work?
In this interview, Martin Braun shares how he combines strength, endurance, stability and performance.
Hi Martin, tell us freely who you are, what your fitness journey looked like, and why the whole hybrid athlete topic resonates with you so strongly.
My name is Martin Braun. I’m a fitness influencer and a hybrid athlete. I’m a father of two daughters, I work in the insurance and finance industry, and you might know me as a content creator on social media. For me, sport is way more than just movement. Training is my balance, my focus, my reset button. It gives me structure, challenges me, and reminds me every day what’s possible with discipline, consistency and the right mindset.
For many years, strength training was my home base. Building muscle, clean technique, and the constant drive to improve shaped me. But I’ve always been drawn to more than pure strength. I didn’t just want to move weight – I wanted to feel resilient and enduring. I didn’t just want to look strong, I wanted to perform strong.
That’s exactly where the world of the hybrid athlete begins for me.
To me, a hybrid athlete is someone who doesn’t see strength and endurance as opposites, but as one system. Someone who can move heavy weights and still stay capable over longer periods of time. Someone who doesn’t focus only on muscle mass, but also on athleticism, mobility, stability and health. It’s not about shining in a single discipline. It’s about being as complete an athlete as possible.
That’s why my training today is intentionally varied. Multiple strength sessions per week meet running, intervals and functional circuits. Add mobility, recovery and a conscious balance between stress and rest. Because real progress, for me, doesn’t come from mindlessly grinding through sessions – it comes from a system that brings strength, endurance and longevity together.
And that combination is exactly what I love. Hybrid training challenges me on multiple levels at once. It demands strength when it gets heavy, endurance when it gets long, and mental toughness when the body is tired but the mind wants to keep going. That’s what excites me about it. It’s not one-dimensional training – it’s a holistic standard I set for myself.
A key support for me in all of this is Bauerfeind Sports products. Especially in intense sessions, the braces and sleeves give me exactly the stability I need without limiting my freedom of movement. They give me confidence under high load and fit perfectly with a training approach where strength, dynamics and control come together. For me, it’s real added value to train consistently at a high level and keep pushing my path as a hybrid athlete day after day.
