Tape vs. bandages in beach volleyball – what gives you more support?
Beach volleyball is pure fun, but also one of the most intense sports: quick changes of direction, explosive jumps, and constant stress on joints and muscles. To stay safe and stable, many athletes use tools like kinesiology tape or bandages. But which one really helps you perform best in the sand?
Kinesiology tape is an elastic adhesive strip applied directly to the skin. It’s designed to support muscles, stimulate circulation and assist natural movement. It’s often used for mild issues or to boost body awareness.
But when it comes to heavily loaded joints like knees or ankles, tape reaches its limits – especially with heat, sweat or contact with sand. It can peel off easily, needs to be applied properly (ideally by a pro), and it’s single-use – which means more waste and higher long-term costs.
Bandages – stable, durable and easy to use
Unlike tape, bandages provide actual mechanical support. But they also help with body awareness and muscle control, just like tape. They relieve pressure from joints and ligaments, improve circulation through compression, and boost your sense of joint position – ideal when jumping and landing on soft, uneven sand.
Bonus: they’re easy to put on, washable, reusable and long-lasting.
Conclusion – more than just support
In beach volleyball, your joints and muscles have to perform at their best. Tape can help with minor issues. But for the intense demands of the sport, bandages are often the better choice. They combine stability, comfort, compression and durability – so you can stay focused and give it your all.
